Tonight at 9pm, Episode 2 of Buddy Guy’s Legends Presents The Chicago Blues will be airing on WYCC (for anyone in TV signal distance of Chicago). This episode is about Chicago’s own Eric “Guitar” Davis, the young rising blues star who was tragically murdered last December in a random act of gun violence.
Here’s a sneak peak at Episode 1 from the WYCC series, Buddy Guy’s Legends Presents The Chicago Blues. This first episode features iconic sax player Eddie Shaw, who got his start playing with Muddy Waters and Howlin’ Wolf and has been touring with his own band for decades.
It airs Friday night at 9pm on Channel 20; if you’re in Chicago, Wisconsin, Indiana or St.Louis, tune in and watch! If you’re anywhere else, call your local PBS station and tell them you want to see this series (it will be going into national syndication in the spring).
On this day in 1957, Buddy Guy left home for Chicago. Ardent fan Andrew Michael Smith decided to commemorate the occasion by sending Buddy a custom-made polka-dot cigar box guitar, a two-stringer just like Buddy’s first homemade axe. Check out the cool photos! And in honor of the occasion, anybody who picks up an autographed copy of “When I Left Home” (Available here) will get a special “Buddy Guy: Lettsworth to Chicago button.”
After this incredible kickoff event, we’ll be showing the first hour of “A Special Evening With Buddy Guy” which you can catch in its entirety on WYCC PBS Chicago that night. This series will be airing regionally around Chicago, then next year is moving to more PBS broadcast areas across the country- keep your eyes open, we’ll be posting more about this soon.
